Vehicle Miles Traveled in April 2021 were up 54.6% compared with April 2020, according to the Federal Highway Administration. The big gain is not surprising, given that last April was the peak of the lockdown. We haven’t yet made a full recovery, however, as the chart below shows

The April 2021 VMT was about 20 million miles below 2019’s amount, and is at about the level we last saw in 2014. Between the higher unemployment and people still working from home, there are still some missing miles.
